Summary: Stardate: 42437.5 The Enterprise receives a distress call from one of the greatest living scientist, Ira Graves. His assistant has called for help against his wishes. The elderly Graves has an incurable illness, and is now near death. However, they find Graves interested in learning more about Data.After Graves dies, Data begins acting strangely, and the crew begins to worry about what is happening to him.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

PLOT: When Picard thinks Graves is dead he bemoans the fact that the man's research has been lost, completely ignoring all the computers in the room. Computers were invented to store data.
FAKE: According to Dr. Pulaski, Graves broke Brianon's hand in two places, but her reaction to such a traumatic event was completely passive.
FAKE: Data/Graves strikes Picard with his right hand from the lower left side of his body; from Picard's perspective, the force of impact is traveling from Picard's lower right to his upper left. But Picard spins a full turn to his right, stumbles to his left, and slams into a wall. Picard should have spun in the same direction as the force of impact.
FAKE: Dr. Pulaski goes to the bridge via turbolift without once uttering her destination to the computer.

TRIVIA

In one scene, Counselor Troi administers a psychotropic exam to Data. Some of the images displayed on the view screen are brief images from Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982), and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), such as the Genesis planet construction flyby and the Genesis matrix composite. Other images displayed are images from previous episodes of the series (Example, Geordi La Forge sans VISOR from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987) {Hide and Q (#1.9)}).
The role of Dr Ira Graves was written with Patrick McGoohan in mind. There was an episode in his classic cult series "The Prisoner" also entitled "The Schizoid Man".
