Summary: Stardate: 41153.7 While en route to Farpoint, Captain Picard and his crew encounter a god-like being called Q, who places humanity on trial for barbarism. Captain Picard has to prove to Q that the Human race is not barbaric; otherwise, the entire human race will be destroyed.Meanwhile, on Farpoint, the newly assigned second-in-command, Lt. Cmdr. William Riker, must solve the mysterious goings on, on the planet, before the Federation makes their decision on if they may join the Federation of planets.Somehow, both Picard and Riker’s separate tasks become intertwined.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

CHAR: Picard is worried about the star exploding, but tells Worf to wait before giving him stellar readings.
FACT: When Data informs the Captain of a similar event having taken place on Captain Kirk's Enterprise the computer graphic shows a model of the refit-version of a Constitution class Starship. But Kirk had to deal with the Psi-2000 virus on his first five year mission ("Star Trek" (1966) {The Naked Time (#1.4)}), way before the refit of the Enterprise, which did not occur until Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979).
CHAR: Dr. Crusher is upset and worried when Riker touches her, after he got infected himself previously. Yet whenever treating La Forge, the first person to be infected, at no time does she wear gloves or any other type of protection for herself, which a good doctor in the given situation would normally always does.

TRIVIA

Deanna Troi's clothing has changed from the blue skirt-type uniform she wore in "Encounter at Farpoint," to a dark grey jumpsuit that she would wear for the remainder of the first season.
The limerick that Data quotes, was written by Star Trek writer David Gerrold. The complete version of the limerick can be found in the third book of his War Against the Chtorr series: A Rage for Revenge.
During the scan of the records, we quickly see a bird (Parrot) with a barely distinguishable human head (Gene Roddenberry's) on a perch wearing a Starfleet uniform, complete with insignia. This is a reference to Gene Roddenberry who was known among fans as "The Great Bird Of The Galaxy."

This is the first time Captain Kirk is referenced by name in the series.
