 | Season 1 / Episode 1: - Encounter at Farpoint, Part I
Q: Thou art notified that that thy kind has infiltrated the galaxy too far already. Thou art directed to return to thine own solar system immediately. |
 | Season 1 / Episode 1: - Encounter at Farpoint, Part I
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: What the hell? Children are not permitted on the bridge! Doctor Beverly Crusher: He's not on the bridge, Captain. My son merely rode up the turbolift with me. Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Your son? [pauses] Wesley? Wesley Crusher: [Unsure] Yes, sir. Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Ah, yes. I knew... I knew your father. |

MISTAKES/GOOFS
- CHAR: When Troi explains to Gropler Zorn that she's only half-Betazoid, she justifies herself by pointing out that her father was a Starfleet officer. Does that rule out the possibility of him being Betazoid? Obviously not, for Starfleet is a multi ethnic organization.
- CONT: When Commander Riker is looking for Data, the computer tells Riker that Data is in the holodeck, "... the next hatchway on your right." Commander Riker goes through the door on his left.
- CONT: During the first scene on the bridge, when Troi senses the Q-being, Picard refers to her as Commander. Later on the planet's surface when she tries to hold Riker back from exposing himself to danger he responds, "You have your orders, Lieutenant." (The three stars on her uniform would clearly identify her as carrying the rank of Commander).
- CONT: Data apparently has not been programmed to use contractions. Yet he says the word "can't" at least once. In this episode it is established that Data is unable to use contractions, but uses them at least 32 times.
- CONT: The "Q bubble" is meant to surround the Enterprise, but when the saucerless Enterprise surrenders, the near edge of the bubble is clearly behind it.
TRIVIA
- The battle bridge set was originally built as the U.S.S. Enterprise bridge for Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979).
- In the original premiere script, Geordi was going to be gay.
- This is the first time the saucer separation sequence is used for the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D. The saucer does not get separated again until "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987) {The Arsenal of Freedom (#1.20)}.
- The diamond-shaped chrome shelf unit in the Farpoint Mall set comes from Kirk's apartment in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982).
- The only episode in this series where the opening credits displays the principal cast members' names only and not their character roles. Starting from the next episode and all the way through the series run, the credits are displayed with character roles (i.e. "Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean Luc Picard", etc.)
