Summary: Spock, Sulu, and Uhura are delivering a Slaver stasis box by shuttlecraft when they detect another box. Following the signal, they soon discover that a Kzinti privateer has set a trap. Capturing the Enterprise crew, they discover their box holds a rare find, a shape-shfiting Slaver weapon. Now Spock and the others must keep the Kzinti from returning to their government with the weapon.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

PLOT: One of the weapon's settings neutralizes all the power in the area - except, conveniently, the Starfleet life-support belts.
CONT: When the Kzinti captain changes the weapon from laser to telescope, the animation sequence is out of order; he's holding the laser, holds up the telescope, changes it into the laser, and is then holding the telescope.

TRIVIA

In this episode, writer Larry Niven introduced the cat-like alien race, the Kzinti, from his "Known Space" novels into the "Star Trek" universe.
This is the only episode of either the original series (TOS) or the animated series (TAS) not to have Capt. Kirk in it. (The original pilot "Star Trek" (1966) {The Cage (#1.0)} - which also didn't feature Kirk - doesn't count because it never aired until years after cancellation.)
