Summary: In an alternate universe, where the universe is ruled by the imperialistic Terran Empire, Commander Archer is the first officer of the I.S.S. Enterprise, serving under Captain Forrest. Archer wants Forrest to take the ship into Tholian space, where there may be a ship that can provide valuable technology to the Empire. But Forrest rejects his idea, thinking Archer is only trying to gain power. The determined Archer does not give up and recruits Major Reed and Sergeant Mayweather to stage a mutiny. Archer not only wants control of the ship, but also wants Forrest's lover, Hoshi, and hopes this mission in finding this ship can lead to him gaining more power in the Empire.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

CONT: When we first meet the mirror T'Pol, she wears the rank insignia of full Commander. Then, in a subsequent scene with Archer, she has the rank of a Lieutenant Commander, but she was never shown as being demoted.

TRIVIA

Malcolm Reed was originally written as a Major in the (never seen) Starfleet Marine Corps. Also, plans had been made to include at least one Starfleet Marine in all 'away missions' but this was also dropped. However, in the 'evil' parallel universe in episode #4.18, "In a Mirror Darkly", Reed did hold the rank of Starfleet Marine Major.
It was during the shooting of the fourth season episode "In a Mirror Darkly" that the cast was informed that the series had been canceled.
The two-part episode "In a Mirror, Darkly" takes place within the "Mirror Universe" from the "Mirror, Mirror" episode of the original "Star Trek" (1966). The cast play their mirror counterparts only... making this the first Star Trek episode to not feature any regular characters.
