Star Trek: Enterprise - 04x07 The Forge (1)Summary: A tragic incident shakes human-Vulcan relations to the core when a bomb is set off in a protected area of the United Earth Embassy that claims 43 lives, including that of Admiral Forrest. The bomb detonated just before the High Command may have been announcing its intent to conduct joint missions with Starfleet. In the throes of the blast, Forrest actually saved the life of an extremely grateful Soval. As Enterprise is called to Vulcan after the tragedy, Soval comes aboard the ship with the head of the Vulcan High Command, Administrator V'Las, and his security chief, Stel. With the embassy officially on Earth soil, Captain Jonathan Archer is to handle the official investigation. The initial research from the bomb fragments that Mayweather and Reed extricate finds the DNA fingerprint of a Vulcan, T'Pau. She is a member of the Syrrannites, a zealous Vulcan sect that believes in — among other Vulcan taboos — the practice of mind-melding. Syrrannites follow a corrupted form of the teachings of Surak, the father of Vulcan logic who is considered the most important Vulcan who ever lived. A wanted man named Syrran is the sect's current leader. With a Syrrannite now suspected, V'Las announces that Vulcans will take over the investigation.

Episode Quotes

04x07 - The Forge (1) Season 4 / Episode 7: - The Forge (1)

Vulcan Ambassador Soval: We don't know what to do about humans. Of all the species we've made contact with, yours is the only one we can't define. You have have the arrogance of Andorians, the stubborn pride of Tellarites. One moment you're as driven by your emotions as Klingons, and the next, you confound us by suddenly embracing logic.
Admiral Maxwell Forrest: I'm sure those qualities are found in every species.
Vulcan Ambassador Soval: Not in such confusing abundance.
04x07 - The Forge (1) Season 4 / Episode 7: - The Forge (1)

Commander T'Pol: This site is called Gateway, where Surak supposedly began his journey into the Forge.
Captain Jonathan Archer: You keep saying supposedly. You don't believe Surak did the things they said he did?
Commander T'Pol: He brought logic to Vulcan, in an age we call the Time of Awakening, but his writings from that period no longer exist.
Captain Jonathan Archer: There must be some record of it.
Commander T'Pol: Over the centuries, his followers made copies of his teachings.
Captain Jonathan Archer: Let me guess, with the originals lost, whatever's left is open to interpretation.
Commander T'Pol: You find this amusing?
Captain Jonathan Archer: I find it familiar.
