Summary: McCoy tells Kirk that he has become infected with a fatal disease for which there is no known cure. Shortly thereafter the Enterprise is attacked and extrapolates that the attack came from an asteroid which turns out to be a sophisticated and inhabited space vessel on a collision course with a planet. The Enterprise tries to stop the oncoming collision, while McCoy announces he plans to stay on the asteroid with the high priestess who has fallen in love with him and live out what's left of his life there.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

FAKE: When Spock is thumbing through the Book of the Fabrini, although Kirk asks whether it is indexed, and Spock says yes, in fact all pages can clearly be seen to be blank until he reaches the pages he wants.
CONT: At the end of "For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky", just before Natira says to McCoy, "Perhaps one day, if it is permitted, you will find Yonada again," she places her hand under his chin. When the angle changes to favor McCoy, her hand is gone, and then when it changes back to favor her, her hand is back under his chin.

TRIVIA

The entrance set used for the entrance portal to the "underground" section of the Yonada world-ship is used again in "The Cloud Minders"
Polycthemia is a real disease in which the body produces too many red blood cells and is not, by itself fatal. Xenopolycthemia would be an alien (xeno- = foreign, alien) variation of the disease.
McCoy's xenopolycthemia is a variant of his father's pyrrhoneuritis that the elder McCoy died of in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989).
