Star Trek: The Original Series
Season 3 » Episode #02 - The Enterprise Incident
![]() Kirk appears to have been acting irrationally of late from the stress of command and orders the Enterprise into the Neutral Zone. Once there, they are quickly surrounded by three Romulan Warbirds and ordered to surrender. Kirk and Spock beam aboard one of the Romulan ships for interrogation. While being questioned, Spock contradicts Kirk's story and is asked by the attractive female Romulan Commander to join their side and take command of the Enterprise for the Romulans. |

Mistakes/Goofs
- Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): The Enterprise crew are shocked to learn that their surprise capture may be due to a new cloaking technology possessed by the Romulans. Kirk and crew already encountered cloaked Romulans two years earlier in "Star Trek" (1966) {Balance of Terror (#1.14)}. However, the cloaking technology in "Star Trek" (1966) {The Enterprise Incident (#3.2)} is new because it is improved. The Enterprise was still able to track a Romulan ship, though not accurately, in "Balance of Terror" and cannot detect them at all with this improved version.
Trivia
- First broadcast episode of Star Trek: The Original Series: The Original Series to feature the D7 Klingon battle cruisers. Although the episode "Star Trek" (1966) {Elaan of Troyius (#3.13)} was produced 3 months before this episode, and technically the first to feature the D7s, this episode was aired on TV first, since NBC changed the airing order for all the episodes. For the Remastered series in 2006, digital shots of the D7s were inserted into scenes in the episode "Star Trek" (1966) {Errand of Mercy (#1.26)}, which now officially makes that episode to be the first to have the D7s.
- The Romulan cloaking device prop was created using the Sargon globe ("Star Trek" (1966) {Return to Tomorrow (#2.20)}) and portions of the Nomad probe ("Star Trek" (1966) {The Changeling (#2.3)}).
- Joanne Linville's Romulan Commander is given the name Dion Charvon in a 1977 Star Trek novel called The Price of the Phoenix, by Myrna Culbreath and Sondra Marshak. In the 1999 novel Vulcan's Heart by Josepha Sherman, her name is given as Liviana Charvanek. It's not clear if either novel is "canonical" but Liviana Charvanek seems to have higher authority and credibility.
- In the opening segment, in regard to the enemy vessels, Spock declares "Romulans now using Klingon design!" The actual reason for this was that in unpacking the models to shoot this sequence, a production assistant stepped on and broke the Romulan Warbird model that was going to be used, so they pulled out their Klingon Battlecruiser model and wrote the line to cover it up.
