Summary: Kirk and a landing party investigate a colony on Gamma Hydra 4 and find that most of the residents have died... of old age. They bring the last few survivors on board the Enterprise where they die, but it soon becomes apparent that everyone from the landing party is showing the same signs of accelerated aging. Only Chekov appears immune and they must find a cure before they all die of old age.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

CONT: In the final shot, Chekov is suddenly wearing a wig instead of his natural hair. (The shot was obviously borrowed from an earlier episode.)
PLOT: After the crew's nearly disastrous experience on "Miri", their lack of concern about beaming back up with the casualties seems odd.

TRIVIA

SPOILER: Scotty, hit hardest second to Lt. Janet Galway, with the rapid aging calls for "Captain" McCoy over the sickbay intercom. Not Doctor.
William Shatner reportedly threatened producer 'Bob Justman' with bodily harm after enduring many torturous hours during the old-age makeup process. "Who's afraid of such a wrinkled, feeble old coot!" scoffed Justman. Nevertheless, Justman locked his office door and hid under his desk until shooting was finished.
SPOILER: Originally, the intention was to have Captain Kirk revert to his normal self on the way to the bridge. This idea was dropped, and in the final version of this episode, Captain Kirk returns to normal while strapped to a pallet in Dr. McCoy's sickbay on the Enterprise.
