Episode Quotes
 | Season 2 / Episode 8: - I, Mudd
Captain Kirk: What is a man but that lofty spirit, that sense of enterprise? That devotion for something that cannot be sensed, cannot be realized but only dreamed, the highest reality. |
 | Season 2 / Episode 8: - I, Mudd
McCoy: [talking about the android Norman] There's something wrong about a man who never smiles, whose conversation never varies from the routine of the job, and who won't talk about his background. Spock: I see. McCoy: Spock... I mean, that it's, uh... it's odd for a non-Vulcan. Um... the ears make all the difference. |

MISTAKES/GOOFS
- PLOT: When Kirk and the landing party short circuited the androids, there was no way to get back to the ship, since all his crew was now on the planet and the Enterprise was manned by androids, which would have been short circuited as well.
- PLOT: SPOILER: The androids beamed up to the Enterprise to send Scotty back on the planet, however there was no other android aboard to operate the transporter, just the crew members who wouldn't authorize (de)materializing without approval from the active captain.
- FAKE: SPOILER: In the final scene, after Kirk tells Mudd about the android they prepared for him as his servant we see Stella entering the room wearing a badge with ID 1. A few seconds later, a replica of Stella enters the room, but she has the same ID. While each android is identical (in its series), they (should) all have different IDs, as seen throughout the episode.
TRIVIA
- Although there are 500 Alyce models, we only see thirteen. In order of appearance, they are: 1, 2, 66, 99, 19, 263, 118, 322, 471, 210, 27, 11, and 3.
- The Harry Mudd character appeared previously in the Star Trek episode Mudd's Women (#1.6)
- This was Roger C. Carmel's favorite Star Trek episode.
- The title is based upon the novel I, Claudius by English writer Robert Graves, first published in 1934, that deals sympathetically with the life of the Roman Emperor Claudius and was turned into a miniseries in 1976.
- During the filming, Gene Roddenberry was in a panic because he needed at least two female identical twins and couldn't find any. Then one night while driving home he saw Alyce Andrece and Rhae Andrece walking down a street. Roddenberry literally pulled up beside them, jumped out of his car and told them that they were going to be on television!
