Sulu: How do you figure it, Chekov? First we're going to Vulcan, then we're going to Altair. Then we're headed to Vulcan again, and now we're headed back to Altair. Chekov: I think I'm going to get space sick. |

MISTAKES/GOOFS
- CONT: Spock drops his pen onto the table in his quarters. The next shot shows Kirk holding his wrist and holding the pen.
- PLOT: SPOILER: When Spock asks to be relieved of duty for supposedly killing Captain Kirk, he seeks permission from Bones. However, it is established that medical officers are not in the chain of command and would not have any authority in a legal case such as murder. Therefore, Spock should have gone to Scotty instead since he is the next highest ranking senior officer.
- CONT: In the scene after T'Pring chooses Kirk to be here champion, Kirk and McCoy are speaking with T'Pau. If you look in the background, you will see Leonard Nimoy standing against the wall with his hands behind his back, apparently unaware that he is on camera. Spock is supposed to be off in the corner, deep in the blood fever.
- CONT: During the battle in, Kirk is standing in front of the Vulcan gong when Spock destroys it. However, in the close up of Kirk's reaction shot, the gong is not behind him.
- CONT: Spocks hands change from one shot to another. They start off together as if he is meditating and in the next shot you can see Spock with hands behind his back.
TRIVIA
- First appearance of the Vulcan phrases "Peace and long life" and "Live long and prosper".
- First appearance of the Vulcan hand salute.
- Many elements of the Spock character were improvised by Leonard Nimoy during production. The "Vulcan salute" was created during the production of "Amok Time" using a version of a traditional Jewish religious hand gesture as a distinctive Vulcan greeting.
- Vulcans were named for Gene Roddenberry's concept for their planet (in the constellation Eridanni) being a "volcanic", desert world.
- The transporter was a plot device intended to eliminate the pacing and production problems involved in depicting the ship landing and taking off all the time. Budgetary constraints on effects were also a consideration. The first landing of a starship would not occur until Star Trek: Voyager episode #2.1, The 37's, broadcast 28 August 1995.
