Episode Quotes
 | Season 1 / Episode 4: - The Naked Time
Capt. Kirk: The purpose of a briefing, gentlemen, is to get me answers based on your abilities and experience. In a critical orbit there's no time for surprise. Scotty: Unless you people on the bridge start taking showers with your clothes on, my engines can pull us out of anything. We'll be warping out of orbit within a half second a' getting your command. |
 | Season 1 / Episode 4: - The Naked Time
Riley: And now, crew, I shall render 'Kathleen'... ONE MORE TIME! |

MISTAKES/GOOFS
- MISC: After the warp engines implode, the ship is going backward in time. They reverse course and time flows forward. The ship's chronometer is calibrated wrong - it goes from 7:59 to 7:00 to 8:01. (This has been corrected in the Remastered Edition.)
- FACT: Sulu reports that the planet's mass is decreasing. Mass can't be lost. With the planet compacting, the density will increase as will the effects of gravity.
- PLOT: It's established that the "intoxication effect" spreads through physical contact - namely, through sweat. Sulu, by the time he makes it to the bridge with his sword, has worked up a healthy amount of perspiration, but though Uhura has extended physical contact with him in the ensuing fight, she never contracts the effect.
- CHAR: When Scotty is cutting through the bulkhead with the phaser he is concerned about cutting through wiring and he doesn't want to go any faster - would it not have been easier and faster to use the phaser to just cut through the door?
- CONT: The outside view of the ship shows the planet to be rotating clockwise, the viewer shows counter-clockwise.
TRIVIA
- The futuristic-looking instrument Spock uses in the derelict planetary outpost is in fact an old-style, 20th-century radiation survey meter, which was called, for some mysterious reason by those who used it, the "Cutie Pie".
- The bowling alley mentioned by Lt. Riley was never seen on the series, but did show up on the USS Enterprise blueprints issued in the 1970's.
- First appearance in the series of Nurse Christine Chapel, played by Gene Roddenberry's then mistress and future wife Majel Barrett.
- Following the viewer's reaction to Spock's emotional outburst, further scripts explored Spock's inner makeup.
- After the scene where Spock is weeping, Leonard Nimoy's fan mail increased exponentially. Viewers were enthralled with the idea that Spock was secretly a reservoir of love and passion instead of an empty emotional void.
