Summary: Stardate: 1513.1 When the crew goes to a distant archaeological outpost to conduct routine medical examinations, they find the husband and wife team healthy. However, each of the Enterprise’s away team seems to see the woman with a different familiar face. The wife becomes a major threat to the Enterprise crew when it appears that she is responsible for the death of several crewmen who died after the removal of all salt in their body. The lone male survivor is unconcerned and hostile toward the crew's plight, and resists their attempt to evacuate him from the planet.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

FAKE: When Sulu touches the face of dead crew member Barnhart, the actor flinches.
PLOT: When the salt vampire, masquerading as Crewman Green, leaves the transporter room, it keeps Green's phaser and wanders all over the ship with it in plain sight. This is unusual enough that someone should at least comment on it, but no one seems to notice.
CREW: When Kirk walks into the turbolift, returning from his mission to the surface of M113, the cameraman's shadow can be seen following him in. And, this shot is used in many additional episodes of the show.
FAKE: When Kirk jumps out from behind the rock after stunning Crater with his phaser, the large "stone masonry" structure next to him wobbles when he nudges it, revealing it's fake.

TRIVIA

This episode is sometimes known by David Gerrold's satiric nickname for it, "The Incredible Salt Vampire".
When Prof. Crater speaks in a low "fazed" tone, it's actually Alfred Ryder's voice slowed down and played back.
The phaser sound effect of the beam stunning Prof. Crater was a sped up recording of a bullet ricochet.
In a conversation with Uhuru, Spock reveals that Vulcan has no moon.
The model used here of the USS Enterprise now resides in the Air and Space Museum in Washington DC.
