Summary: After Jonathan's wallet is stolen, Clark super-speeds after the thief but is stunned when he cannot catch him. The thief, Bart, a.k.a. The Flash later shows up at the farm and tries to talk Clark into leaving Smallville for a life on the road together, flexing their super powers. Meanwhile, Lex buys a priceless framed manuscript with Kryptonian symbols and Clark learns that it contains a mysterious hidden map. However, when Bart steals the manuscript from Lex, he inadvertently puts Clark's life in danger and must make the decision whether to save Clark or himself.

When Clark goes through Bart's fake IDs he lists off the names Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, and Wally West. These are the names of the three characters in the DC universe who posses the ability to tap into the "Speed Force", each therefore respectively donning the identity "The Flash". Jay Garrick is the original Flash (1940-1955), and is now a member of the Justice Society of America. Barry Allen (1956-86) took over the role of The Flash in 1956 and is known as the Silver Age Flash. Lastly, his nephew Wally West (1987-2006) took over the role of Flash upon Allen's death, and is best known for his role in the Justice League Unlimited cartoons. Wally West is, incidentally, voiced by Michael Rosenbaum who plays Lex Luthor in Smallville. Most recently, Bart Allen (2006 - Present) took over the role of Flash, but this occurred after the episode "Run" was created which is likely why the name did not appear among the fake IDs.
When Bart hits on Chloe, he briefly mentions coming from the future. In the comics, Bart Allen was actually sent from the 31st century by his grandmother to be taken care of by Wally West.
