  • Episode 14 - Mobil Oil's public relations chief Herb Schmerz took offense to Ralph Nader's Weekend Update commentary and demanded equal time to respond. But he declined a rebuttal written by SNL's writers.
  • Episode 05 - The show received angry letters and phone calls about the sketch "First, He Cries". The sketch spoofed Betty Rollin's book "First, You Cry" which chronicled her struggle with breast cancer. Rollin contacted 'Al Franken', the sketch's writer, to tell him that she was not offended
  • Episode 12 - Garrett Morris was very angry over being cast as a monkey in the previous episode. During rehearsals, he stormed into the studio late and screamed at the entire show's staff for never treating him fairly. At the end of the tirade, Kirk Douglas commented, "That's the b
  • Episode 20 - This was the final appearance on the show by Buck Henry. In the first five years, he hosted the show ten times and made numerous cameos. He has never returned for a guest appearance since, except for the 15th Anniversary Special in 1990.
  • Episode 14 - This was the 100th episode of the regular series.
