This episode features the first appearance of "The Olympia Cafe" sketch. Writer Don Novello based it on a Chicago diner he had frequented called "Billy Goat Tavern".
This episode features the first appearance of "The Nerds" sketch. Writers Al Franken and Tom Davis named Bill Murray's character "Todd LaBounta" after a real-life classmate of theirs. When the real Todd LaBounta threatened to sue NBC, the character's name was changed to "Todd DiLaMuca" for future episodes.
