Gilda Radner's Emily Litella character makes her first appearance in the "Looks at Books" sketch
Abba (I) lip-synced "Waterloo". During their performance, subtitles appear onscreen saying: "Right now Abba is lip syncing ... it's not their fault ... the tracks didn't arrive from Sweden." Lorne Michaels did not want them on the show but NBC executive Dick Ebersol insisted.
John Belushi proposed the Sam Peckinpah sketch for the Candice Bergen show one week earlier, but it was delayed
