Season 1 Trivia

  • Episode 07 - Goof (factual errors): When Pompey is explaining the battle of Pharsalus to Lucius Vorenus he says that his cavalry was repulsed by a single cohort of Caesar's reserve infantry. According to history, Caesar's reserves in that battle totaled nine cohorts.
  • Episode 12 - Goof (anachronisms): When Pullo is seen by the physician in Rome, he says he has given him henbane for the pain. The term "henbane" was not in use until about 1265 CE.
  • Episode 07 - According to history, when Caesar captured Pompey's camp he found that it was already decorated for a party to celebrate Caesar's defeat.
  • Episode 02 - Goof (anachronisms): Lucius Vorenus wears shoes with soles. This invention has not been found (archaeologically) BC. Though the shoe itself looks authentic to the archaeological material.
  • Episode 08 - Caesar and Cleopatra's relationship actually lasted longer than is shown in the series. According to history, Caesar carried on with Cleopatra for 14 years; she visited Rome repeatedly, often staying in Caesar's own villa.
