  • Four tapes were swiped in August 2006 in Budapest, where the 13-part series was being edited, and the thieves were demanding one million pounds (1.9 million dollars, 1.5 million euros) for their safe return. The production offered a 40,000 pounds reward for the return of the tapes. The Hungarian police found the tapes the next month.
  • Robin's birthday is October 14th.
  • Ireland, Bulgaria, Latvia and Romania were all looked at in terms of filming locations.
  • The titles for the episodes in Season 1 were all lines used in that episode.

  • Filming on this episode was delayed for 2 weeks as all the sets and forest were frozen solid in Hungary's late winter.
  • Lucy Griffiths' mother, father, sister and grandfather are all extras in the scene where Marian is publicly humiliated.
  • When Annie is talking Roy in the prison, she mentions that she gave her baby Seth to Guy to take to the Abbey. This was a common practice in that time period. Widowed or unwed mothers would send their child to a monastery (boys) or convent (girls). They would be taken care of, educated, learn a profession, and many would eventually take vows to become monks or nuns.
  • Marian's punishment of having her hair cut off would have carried great meaning in that time. Women's long hair was seen as their prize and a great part of their physical beauty. Cutting off the hair was a humiliation as it was seen as a loss of their beauty. Also, short hair was often associated with prostitution so the woman would have that stigma attached, whether or not she was actually a prostitute.
  • The scene in which everyone is led out to witness the hanging of Roy's mother had to be shot several times, as Richard Armitage kept ad-libbing "Good morning, morning, morning" to the guards, as if it were just another day at the office, in turn cracking the cast and crew members up. Gordon Kennedy can actually be seen laughing as he is brought down the castle steps.
  • William Beck's name is removed from the opening credits.
  • Anjali Jay joins the cast in this episode as Turkish fellow outlaw Djaq.
  • The opening scenes - supposedly set in the Holy Land - were actually filmed in a sand quarry in Hungary.
  • When Guy and robin are fighting in the forest, Guy denounces King Richard I (Richard the Lionheart) as a terrible ruler who fought other people's wars rather than take care of his own people. This is actually a very true statement. During Richard's ten year reign, he spent only six months in England. Even though he was born in Oxford, he spoke only French, seeing no need to learn English. He saw England largely as a place that could finance his conquests and crusades. Thus, Guy's hatred and distrust of the king are understandable, a sentiment that was shared by many real citizens of the time.
  • Keith Allen lost one of his teeth filming this episode, an incident that is referred to in the script.
  • The title, uttered by Robin Hood in this episode, was also said by the Sheriff of Nottingham two episodes previously in "Dead Man Walking".
  • The cave is the only studio set used throughout the first series.
  • To make the sack of gold look more enticing, near the end of the episode (both in the jail and in their hideout), the special effects dept colored it to make it appear bright red.
  • Final appearance of Lucy Griffiths as Marian. Lucy Griffiths wanted to leave the series to pursue 'other opportunities' and was rumored to leave the series to further her career in Hollywood. The character was written out, but Lucy Griffiths did make a cameo as a spectral vision of Marian for the Series 3 finale.
  • On August 7th 2008, Jonas Armstrong announced that he was to leave the series at the end of the Series 3 finale.
  • The map that Gisbourne is seen consulting several times in his camp is the same map that lead Robin and the Gang to Eleanor of Aquitaine in season 2 episode 11 "Treasure Of The Nation".
  • Jonas Armstrong decided to leave the series and the lead title character was killed off, after Armstrong announced his departure from the series on 7th August 2008 and the BBC decided that the fourth season was not to be commissioned.
