Isabella is Gisborne's younger sister. When Guy and Isabella were young, the Gisborne family lost their lands and wealth in England and moved to France. Unbeknown to Isabella, Guy decided to sell her into marriage to a rich English Squire to fund his own political career. But her husband was cruel and abusive and, having heard of Guy's rising status in Nottingham, she seeks out her brother's protection. She discovers the truth about her arranged marriage and resolves to make her brother pay. She is determined to make him beg for her forgiveness believing that only then will she truly be able to let go of the pain of her past and embrace her future.

Bio:
Isabella Thornton (née Gisborne) is the daughter of Sir Roger and Ghislaine of Gisborne, sister of Guy of Gisborne and wife of Thornton. She also has a half-brother, Archer. After Vaisey was believed to be dead, Isabella became the new Sheriff of Nottingham.

Lady Ghislaine took Isabella and Guy to England while her husband was fighting in the crusades, and presumed dead. However, he was really just very ill, and returned to Locksley to live with his wife and two children. However, Lady Ghislaine and Robin Hood's father had already had another child - his name was Archer. Then, in a terrible fire that killed both of Isabella's father and mother, Isabella and Guy were forced to flee and Robin Hood took of as Lord of Locksley Manor.

When Isabella was twelve, Guy sold her to a bad man. Later in Isabella's life, she escaped from her meanacing husband and found herself running in Sherwood Forest, where she met Robin of Locksley. After accompanying Robin and his outlaws for little less than a day, she and the Outlaws found themselves in Guy of Gisborne's camp, where Isabella revealed herself to be Guy's sister. She secretly continued her relationship with Robin for two more episodes, before Guy discovered their relationship and Prince John ordered them to be executed. During a heatwave, Robin and Isabella nearly drowned, but after escaping Isabella tempted Robin on joining her by running away. Kate convinces Robin to decline, and he agrees, and then Isabella turns on them both. Guy, after lying that Robin and Isabella were dead, was called a traitor and Guy ran away. Afterwards, Isabella proves to Prince John that she is worthy of him by saving his life from Guy of Gisborne. Prince John leaves, appointing Isabella the new Sheriff of Nottingham, replacing the previous one who was also killed by Guy.

Isabella is overseeing the execution of Guy when her husband arrives and takes her place as Sheriff. She seeks protection from Robin, who demands political promises in return. Believing she cannot trust him, she waits until Robin disposes of her husband, and then turns on the outlaw. Meanwhile, Guy has formed an alliance with another inmate, an impressionable young girl named Meg, who seeks to free him from prison. Horrified, Isabella orders the immediate execution of both of them, but Robin intervenes, and Guy escapes with Meg, who nevertheless, dies of a fatal wound sustained during the escape. In the ensuing chaos, Thornton returns to exact revenge on Isabella. Terrified, she kills him in self-defense, and Robin castigates her as as murderer, thus poisoning Isabella against the outlaw.

Later, Robin and Guy form an alliance and go to rescue both their and Isabella's half-brother, Archer, at York, but Isabella tells the Sheriff of York she will pay a lot of money for Robin and Guy's heads. However, the Sheriff of York tries to have Robin and company killed. The group later escape and Archer goes his own way. Isabella is seen looking angry and wanting revenge. She appears to make an alliance with Archer in Something Worth Fighting For (Part 1). Then Archer betrays Isabella, and the castle is taken by Nottingham, Locksley and the Outlaws. Isabella and one leading soldier are left standing. The leader tells her to run, and he goes and joins the old Sheriff in his battle to win back his castle. Isabella is then confronted by Kate, who knocks her out for making her mother betray Kate. She is held hostage by her brother and Robin. They stand in the front of Allan A Dale's body as the Old Sheriff advances towards Nottingham to take his town back. Isabella's leading soldier says to the Old Sheriff, "How have you been, my lord?"

Isabella is locked up by Guy, who gives her poison to commit suicide with, in case she is captured, in a bizarre moment of compassion. She, however, persuades a guard to free her. Guy then follows her to the tunnel, where she and the Sheriff simultaneously stab and kill Guy. She also cuts Robin's neck with her dagger, to which she had applied the poison, and he later dies of his wound. Robin, in his dying moments, fires a burning arrow at the green fire and the castle blows up, killing Isabella.

Personality
Isabella comes across as vulnerable, vengeful, and even mentally unstable. The men in her life have successively betrayed her in some way or another, and she develops a strong sense of paranoia and self-reliance as a result. She has difficulty coming to terms with the fact that her brother believes he did the right thing by marrying her to Thornton, and believes that she is being generous in holding out several years for an apology. When that apology is not forthcoming, she gives up, and leaves him to be outlawed. Although her romance with Robin Hood ends on a sour note, their relationship doesn't seriously deteriorate until the moment when he chastises her for killing her husband in self-defense. Her mental instability is clear when she addresses her half-brother Archer, declaring sincerely that she would commit murder in order to preserve her "holy mother's memory." After aiding in the death of her brother, Guy, she pauses for a moment to gaze at his corpse in reflection, but is chided by the sheriff for being sentimental, and hurries off.

Isabella Quotes

03x13 - Something Worth Fighting For (2) Season 3 / Episode 13: - Something Worth Fighting For (2)

Guy of Gisborne: Did you know the Sheriff was still alive?
Isabella: I knew nothing of this.
Guy of Gisborne: [to Guard] Leave us.
Isabella: You so want to kill me, don't you? What's stopping you, Guy? Not that fact that I'm a woman, surely. You're so good at killing defenseless females.
Guy of Gisborne: You're right. There is too much blood on my hands already. Isabella, you'll find no mercy amongst the outlaws now. So when the time is right... [pulls out bottle of poison] you might want to use this.
Isabella: Poison.
Guy of Gisborne: A single drop will act slowly and painfully. For it to be quick, you must take it all.
Isabella: This is your idea of mercy. Your last brotherly gesture. For whose sake, Guy? Mine or yours?
Guy of Gisborne: I do this for our Mother's sake. Though there's precious little of her goodness left in either of us.
03x13 - Something Worth Fighting For (2) Season 3 / Episode 13: - Something Worth Fighting For (2)

Guy of Gisborne: Isabella.
Isabella: Guy?
Guy of Gisborne: Isabella, where are you?
Isabella: Come and get me.
Guy of Gisborne: That explosion...
Isabella: The tunnel should be cleared by now. I'd say there's a way out if you want it. For you, Guy, perhaps it's time you took the poison for yourself. After all, you've destroyed anyone you've ever held dear to you. You know, Brother, you loved me once.
Sheriff of Nottingham: ...and me, too.
Guy of Gisborne: ...you planned this?
Sheriff of Nottingham: Isabella, you will, of course, relinquish your claims to my title if you wish to join me. [to Guy] I didn't want anyone else to have the pleasure of killing you, so I set up this little trap. Stay back. He's mine. The man who tried to kill me. I MADE YOU!
Guy of Gisborne: I won't make the same mistake twice.
