Michael Raines, an eccentric but brilliant Los Angeles cop, solves murders in a very unusual way - he turns the victims into his partners. These visions are figments of his imagination, and he knows it, but when he can't make the dead disappear, he works with them to find the killer.

- The script for the eighth installation, entitled "Every Picture Tells a Story" was written but never filmed, because of the cancellation. This would have been episode production number 108.
- Luis Guzmán originally had the role of Charlie Lincoln, but after the pilot was shot, he was replaced by Malik Yoba. NBC then asked that the producers re-shoot the scenes in which he appeared.
- Goof (continuity error): When the opening sequence begins the keypad on the door of Raines' car is missing but at the end of the sequence it is back on the door.
