Summary: While Gus tunes in to a television favorite, a singing competition called American Duos, Shawn would rather tune it out. He is more than happy to have their viewing experience interrupted by a phone call from Juliet, asking them to come to the police station. Much to his dismay, Shawn realizes that he didn't escape the show after all. One of the judges from the program, the crass Nigel St. Nigel, is in need of Shawn's help. He has been the victim of numerous life-threatening attacks and needs protection. While Lassiter interviews all the potential suspects, Shawn and Gus must go undercover—as contestants on American Duos.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

CONT: The girls in the hall and the hip hop dancers on stage while Shawn and Gus were on the catwalk, both shared the same contestant number 43101.

TRIVIA

After Shawn and Gus's terrible audition, Lester Beacon questions Nigel's decision to pass them on to the next round, telling him, "We all saw what happened with that Indian kid on the other show." This is a reference to Sanjaya Malakar, a contestant from season six of American Idol, who advanced to the final round and drew a large base of fans but was widely criticized for his limited vocal abilities.
The name Zapato Dulce means "Sweet Shoe" in Spanish.
David Bowie (I) was considered for the role of Nigel St. Nigel.
When Emilina Saffron utters the line: "Come on, Count Chocula, I know you're in there! Don't make me pee on something! Again!" it gives the writers another chance to indulge their love of pop culture references. Count Chocula is the mascot for a breakfast cereal that contains chocolate-flavored corn cereal bits and marshmallows. Incidentally, in an episode of the cartoon "Robot Chicken" (2005), Count Chocula is seen as a judge in an American Idol spoof called Zombie Idol in which he substituted for the role of Simon Cowell.
