Throughout the series the producers used stylized visual sequences to illustrate Sam's intuitive leaps. Because the show debuted at the same time as the similarly themed Millennium, which stared a profiler with actual psychic abilities illustrated with similar stylized segments, many assumed that Sam was supposed to be psychic. In reality the flashes were never supposed to be psychic. Instead they were supposed to illustrate Sam's though process as she made intuitive leaps.
The title of this episode, 'Insight' is said to have been planned as the original title for the show, before the show's name was switched to 'Profiler'

'What's Love Got to Do with It' was then run at the end of the season - confusingly enough, after the season finale! This explains why the events at the cliffhanger ending of 'Las Brisas' are completely ignored in the next show, then picked up again in 'Reunion'.
