Several two hour episodes, which includes all season 5 segments and the TV movies Police Story: A Cry for Justice (1979) (TV) and Police Story: Confessions of a Lady Cop (1980) (TV), have aired in syndication in two, one-hour segments.
In the opening stakeout scene, the squad is watching Slow Boy (Chuck Connors) outside a theater showing the movie The New Centurions (1972), which is the movie based on the novel by Joseph Wambaugh.
In the syndicated two-parter, John Karlen and Taylor Lacher appear in just one scene. They play two unidentified detectives walking the character played by Diane Baker out of the supermarket after a hostage situation.
On the DVD version released in 2011 by Shout Factory, the menu and promotional info has the correct title of "Slow Boy". On the episode's opening credits, the title is listed as "Stakeout".
Both Barbara Rhoades & Hal Williams guest-starred on the classic "Sanford and Son" Season 6, Ep2: The Hawaiian Connection: Part 2 (1 Oct. 1976) But they did not have any scenes together.
Marjoe Gortner's girl on this EP was called "Bobbie". 3 yrs later, made a movie ,which has since become a cult-classic, called: "Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw" in which Lynda Carter played his girl, 'Bobbie'.
Two actors in this EP, Mwako Cumbuko who played 'Warren' and Mews Small who played 'Shirley', and had no scenes together, worked again together 2yrs later in the now classic, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". Mwako was 'Warren' one of the male orderlies at the mental institution and Mews (billed Marya Small) was 'Candy', one of Jack Nicholson's 'R.P. McMurphy' character's lady friends he sneaks in.

This highly publicized episode was shot on videotape, a first (and only) for a dramatic series of the 1970s. The production crew had great difficulty adjusting to the new format (with numerous changes needed for lighting and set design), and the show went two days over schedule and consequently far over budget. No scripted dramatic series since then, except for some live episodes preserved for retaping, has tried the format.
Final 60 minute episode. The show continued on an occasional basis airing seven 2-hour episodes in season 5.
David Janssen was completely drunk during most of the filming. He was trying to maintain his balance, could barely stand up, slurred his lines, forgot his lines, and his co-stars had to ad-lib to compensate.
