The animated serie takes place chronologically between the fourth and fifth film of the series of films. Twelve characters are re-created for this animated version, including a team of Academy graduates led by Carey Mahoney, a likeable rogue bachelor boy, who unconsciously -- and consistently -- does his best to make life miserable for Captain Harris and his knucklehead assistant Sgt. The series guest stars included: - Bubba Smith as Hightower, who had earned an even higher ranking in the force. - David Graf as Tackleberry, who had two nephews in the Academy. - Leslie Easterbrook as Callahan, who was now a D.A. - George Gaynes as Lassard, who was now retired and touring dark jungles. - George R. Robertson as Hurst, who now had a devil-horned hairstyle. - Tim Kazurinsky (Sweetchuck) as the Academy's janitor. - Art Metrano as Commandant Miser (not Mauser).

[show]Was the last time that David Graf played the role of Tackleberry. Graf died in 2001. In the series, Tackleberry had two nephews in the Academy. His character was very watered down compared to the movies though as Tack had inexplicably replaced his love of guns with "paintball" firearms instead.
[hide] - In the office of Commandant Stuart Hefilfinger (Joe Flaherty), a framed picture of Commandant Lassard (George Gaynes) is seen in the background.
