Summary: A visitor from Japan has announced his intentions of buying the whole town and create a gigantic golf course in its place. But Dick seems to be the one and only hold out to their plans, angering the townspeople.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

BOOM: Right before Larry, Darryl and Darryl show up, four other former townsfolk show up and are talking to Dick. Right before the townsfolk are done talking to Dick, a boom mic can be seen dipping into the scene for a few minutes, before pulling back up and out of sight.

TRIVIA

The final episode ran for 5 minutes longer than the typical episode. Many CBS affiliates did not get the message and cut to a commercial after 30 minutes. Viewers demanded the episode to be rerun and it was on the following week.
The final scene was kept a secret from most of the cast and crew until moments before filming it. Only Newhart, director Dick Martin (I), the writers and producers knew. A curtain was put in front of the recreated "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972) set so the audience would not know the secret right up until the moment of filming. When the curtain was pulled back, the audience immediately recognized the set and reacted wildly. After filming, the audience was asked to keep the secret.
After the 7th season, Bob Newhart decided the 8th season would be the final season for the show. When he told his wife Ginny Newhart of his decision, she suggested that for the final episode, his character should wake up in bed next to Suzanne Pleshette, and that the series should be a dream.
To protect the secret of the ending, a fake script was leaked to the press. In it, after Bob gets by the golf ball, he dies, goes to Heaven and meets God played by George Burns.
