Episode Quotes
Rainbow Dash: [in a train car on their way to Dodge Junction to find Applejack] I hope this lead doesn't turn out to be a dead end. I don't wanna go back empty-hooved after we promised we'd find her.
Fluttershy: I don't know how we'll break it to the Apple family.
Twilight Sparkle: I don't know how we'll break it to Ponyville!
Pinkie Pie: [groaning and squirming in the background, with one rear leg tightly crossed over the other] I don't know how I'll make it to the next stop!

Granny Smith: I want you to show all them high-falutin' rodeo ponies what a *real* rodeo pony's like!
Applejack: You betcha, Granny Smith.
Mayor Mare: [singsongy voice] And bring back all that money!

Mayor Mare: [singsongy voice] And bring back all that money!
Applejack: "Dear Princess Celestia: It's a tad easier to be proud when you come in first than it is when you finish further back. But there's no reason to hide when you don't do as well as you'd hoped. You can't run away from your problems. Better to run to your friends and family."
Trivia
- The opening scene with Rainbow Dash and Derpy Hooves was storyboarded by Sabrina Alberghetti (the senior storyboard artist) and Nicole Wang, and Derpy herself was voiced (for the first time) by Tabitha St. Germain.
- While this episode was Derpy's first speaking appearance, there was some controversy immediately after it aired. Some felt that her name and deep voice were offensive to people with mental disabilities. The episode was removed from iTunes and later put back up with her name omitted and voice changed to a more feminine version. This caused other people to complain. Some upset at the removal of the fan-favorite's name. Others, ironically, offended that Hasbro (or the Hub Network) seemed unwilling to depict a character as mentally disabled.
- This is the first episode where the fan-favorite character Derpy Hooves gets her first scripted speaking role, AND is also named on-screen by a main character (Rainbow Dash). Derpy started out as a no-name background pony in the first episode of the series, and her "derped" eyes were the result of an animation error (or a purposeful background joke).
