Despite quite a bit of media attention and much publicity on the part of NBC, this imaginative sitcom failed to attract viewers even for its premiere. Mr. Smith starred an orangutan named C.J. as the title character, a run-of-the-mill orangutan who gains the power of speech and an IQ of 256 thanks to a lab accident.
