Monkey (JP) (Dubbed)
Monkey is the story by Wu Ch'êng-ên based on the ancient Chinese legend tracing the origins of Buddhism. It follows the adventures of Tripitaka and disciples Pigsy, Sandy and of course Monkey, on their journey from China to India to fetch the large vehicle holy scriptures which will save the world.

"In the worlds before Monkey, primal chaos reigned. Heaven sought order, but the phoenix can fly only when its feathers are grown. The four worlds formed again and yet again, as endless aeons wheeled and passed. Time, and the pure essences of heaven, the moisture of the Earth, the powers of the sun and the moon, all worked upon a certain rock, old as creation, and it became magically fertile. That first egg was named 'Thought'... Elemental forces caused the egg to hatch; from it then came a stone monkey. The nature of Monkey was irrepressible!"
In our character listing, you will notice that they are listed twice. This is to credit both the voice actors from the English dubbed version and the original Japanese actors who acted the parts. (The voice actors are denoted with the word voice in brackets after their character's name.)
Thirteen episodes were not dubbed or shown in their original run. These 'missing' episodes were later re-dubbed by the original voice actors from the series and broadcast in 2004. However, these episodes are shown in correct chronological production order in our guides.
