MISTAKES/GOOFS

CONT: When Leila comes to visit Monk, she is offered a seat on a couch with two striped brown pillows. First sitting down, the stripes on the left pillow are vertical, and horizontal on the right pillow. The shot changes to Monk, and then back to Leila, and both of the striped pillows are vertical. The position of the pillows change several times in the scene.
CONT: When the detectives hand Leyla's personal effects and confession to Mr. Monk, he holds the confession in his right hand and the bag of personal effects in his left hand. As the two detectives walk away, the items have switched hands, only to switch back in the next shot.
CONT: When Captain Stottlemeyer is introducing the case, he writes the word "Female" on the chalkboard. Monk then points out that the "L" in the word is crooked, and the Captain fixes it. The L is clearly smaller than the E. However, in the next shot, the L has become taller than the E.

TRIVIA

The Eastern European land Zemenia, where Leyla and the butcher are supposed to come from, does not exist. The language Leyla is speaking sometimes is Polish. The Zemenian flag you can see in some scenes is patterned on the flag of Croatia but in other colors an with some little modifications. The Zemenian language Mr. Monk is trying to speak (with the dictionary) is an invented language.
