The story involves 3 married couples in a NY City apartment building. Nick and Olivia Williams are a 60ish couple who owned the building. Russell and Elizabeth Meyers live on the second floor in a non-traditional marriage (he is a writer and she is a lawyer) and Allen and Cindy Campbell on the third floor (he is a student and she works as a waitress to put him through school).
