Summary: American Airlines Flight 1 has crashed, killing all on board, including the father of one of Sterling Cooper's employees. Sensing an opening, the management of Sterling Cooper consider dumping their account with a regional airline to gain a more lucrative national account with American Airlines. Paul's party at his New Jersey apartment has some consequences at work, and Peggy reluctantly visits with her family.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

DATE: While Don is in the Asian restaurant, Sukiyaki plays on the TV soundtrack. While the song was recorded as "Ue o muite aruko" in 1961 in Japan, it wasn't released in the US until 1963 - and the episode is set during the first week in March 1962 after the tragic American Airlines crash. Coincidentally, Sukiyaki was recorded by Kyû Sakamoto who later died in the crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123 on August 12, 1985.

TRIVIA

Roger Sterling notices the whole office is listening to a radio, and assuming it's to hear about astronaut John Glenn's hero parade in New York, in frustration says "John Glenn will be on earth for the rest of his life." John Glenn went back into space on October 29th, 1998.
The show was dedicated to the memory of actor Christopher Allport, who played Andrew Campbell in the series, and who died earlier in the year this episode first aired in an avalanche while snowboarding. In this episode, his character is killed in a plane crash.
