MISTAKES/GOOFS
- MISC: When Paulo picks up the nicotine gum from the bag, the cover of his passport says "Republica Federativa do Brazil" when the correct text in a Brazilian passport is "República Federativa do Brasil". The word "Brazil" is misspelled in Portuguese, and word "Republica" is missing an accent.
- CONT: In the beginning of the episode, the Zippo lighter goes from unlit to lit between shots.
- CONT: While Nikki & Paulo are drinking champagne in the airport lounge, Shannon & Boone arrive, arguing. Paulo's full glass suddenly becomes less than half full. As Boone and his sister leave to find somewhere to sit, the glass is almost full again.
- PLOT: In Season 2 Episode 21 ("Lost" (2004) {? (#2.21)}) (about 28 minutes into the program), when the group finds the doors to the Pearl Station, it takes Eko and Locke both to open each of the two doors. When another group returns to the Pearl Station, (in Season 3 Episode 5 "Lost" (2004) {The Cost of Living (#3.5)}, 25 minutes into the episode), Sayid and Desmond repeat the process of opening the doors. In this episode, (Season 3 Episode 14, about 24 minutes into the program), we find Paulo has entered the Pearl Station alone to hide the diamonds, he hides as he hears Ben and Juliet enter the station, You hear Ben comment something like "Who left the doors open?" We must assume that when Ben and Juliet left, they closed the doors behind them, leaving Paulo inside. If it took two people to open the doors from the outside, how do we expect one person standing on a ladder in a vertical shaft to open the doors from the inside?
TRIVIA
- For this episode, the characters of Nikki (Kiele Sanchez) and Paolo (Rodrigo Santoro) had to be convincingly incorporated into the plane crash scene featured in the pilot. The editing crew meticulously watched hours of original footage to determine where additional scenes could be placed, which camera angles had not been used before, and which characters could be used for additional shots. The original beach set (still largely intact) was revisited and additional shots with Nikki, Paolo and several original cast members were filmed. In some instances, acting was performed in front of a green-screen to incorporate the actors in existing (unused) footage. The resulting scene is a seamless cut of old, new and altered shots.
- During a flashback, Nikki is seen exiting a movie/TV soundstage (where her guest appearance on the fictional show "Exposé" is being shot) directly opposite the Sydney Opera House. In reality, this is the site of Admiralty House and Kirribilli House, the Sydney residences of the Governor General and Prime Minister of Australia.
- This episode is also a take on a play called 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead', which chronicles the lives of two characters played out against the backdrop of events from Shakespeare's Hamlet. In Hamlet, the two characters are charged with determining Hamlet's motives, and plans. Instead they, themselves are killed. The characters are thrust into the universe of Hamlet in much the same way that Paulo and Nikki were thrust into ours, by the will of the writer. Inasmuch, they seem to serve no valid purpose and are generally mocked throughout for being the extraneous folk they are. In "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead", however, much like Expose is Nikki and Paulo, the playing field is reversed and they are the major characters with Hamlet seeming to be the character with misappropriated importance.
- Exposé director Stephen Williams (I) cast a fictional Stephen Williams as the director of the fictional Exposé. You can see his name on the clap board and on the back of the director's chair. The gentleman in the sleeveless shirt is the phony Williams, the man in the lower right is the real Stephen Williams.
- Sawyer is seen reading Agatha Christie's 'Evil Under the Sun'. The book also centers around diamonds, and the mystery is played out on an island.
