Episode Quotes

Desmond: How do I know you?
Charlie: I don't, um...
Desmond: Where do I know you from?
Charlie: I don't know, but I'll remember if I could get some help.
Desmond: [Sees a flashback to the island] You're Charlie!
Charlie: Yeah, name's on the sign.
Desmond: It, it was in the hatch! I remember seeing you! There was a computer, there was a button... we were on an island!
Charlie: We are on an island, mate. This is England.
Desmond: No, it was real! I remember.
Charlie: Hey, all right. [to the crowd] This is why we don't do drugs.
Charlie: So, you're telling me you saw a flash of Claire drowning this morning, so you knew how to save her?
Desmond: I wasn't saving Claire, Charlie... I was saving you. This morning, you dove in after Claire. You tried to save her but you drowned.
Charlie: What do you mean? I didn't drown.
Desmond: When I saw the lightning hit the roof, you were electrocuted. And when Claire was in the water, you drowned trying to save her. I dove in myself so you never went in. I tried, brother. I've tried twice to save you, but the universe has a way of course-correcting, and I can't stop it forever. I'm sorry - I'm sorry because, no matter what I try to do... you're gonna die, Charlie.
Desmond Hume: Hey, brotha'!

Mistakes/Goofs

  • Goof (anachronisms): There are now very few places in Britain that retain the classic red telephone boxes: most of those that remain are in rural villages. However, in the exterior scenes that are allegedly set in London, there's one on just about every street corner.
  • Goof (revealing mistake): Desmond passes an army recruitment office in London near where he and Penny pose for photo. First of all the main army in GB has been known since Cromwell's time as the "Regular Army" not Her Majesty's or Royal Army, hence the distinction of the Regular Army as opposed to the "Royal Navy" and the "Royal Air Force". A recruiting poster displayed spells "Honor", the American way not "Honour" as it would be spelled in the UK. Also, British Troops do not carry M16s, as shown in the poster. The couple's London flat is shown with stripped stonework and brick. There are no flats in London with interior walls made from rough stone, "London" brick has always been the material. Fine cut blocks of Portland limestone are often used in the exterior walls of office or public buildings bit not rough cut stone except in the North-East of England and Scotland.

Trivia

  • The song Charlie is singing is Wonderwall by Oasis (II). Not unlike Driveshaft, Oasis is a British rock band based around two brothers, one of which is named Liam.
  • The clock in the nightstand reads 1:08. A reference to the mysterious number sequence.
  • The numbers: When Desmond is waiting to see Mr. Widmore, the delivery guy says "parcel for 815" (parcel 4 8 15).
  • The book Hurley is reading is Vladimir Nabokov's novel "Laughter in the Dark". It is a book about a guy whose sex addiction is his undoing.
  • Charlie's full name is Charles Hieronymus Pace.
