Claus and Lavie, pilot and navigator of a Vanship, act as messengers for the Guild. After rescuing a little girl from a killing machine, they are not willing to let her die, so they deliver her to the mercenary ship Sylvania only to become part of the crew as fighter pilots. Now they must fend for their lives, as fate has put them in the middle of a war... a war for the Gateway to Exile!

Random Fun Fact: In the theme song, the only main character that isn't featured is Luciola. Although it is thought that Queen Delphine does not appear either, she does towards the end of the series when there is a slight change to the animation during the theme song.
