For the first few episodes, an exotic-looking logo was used for the opening credits. After the band Living Colour claimed the show stole the logo from them and threatened to sue, the logo was changed to one with rather plain-type letters.
Keenen Ivory Wayans left the show in the middle of the fourth season over disputes with Fox about censoring the show's content and rerunning early episodes without his consultation. At the end of the season, Kim Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans followed their brother in leaving the show. Damon Wayans had already left the show at the end of the third season to pursue his film career.
Ugly Wanda, played by Jamie Foxx, was based on a character LaWanda Page played in a sketch on Redd Foxx. The first sketch to feature Wanda, in which she gives an erotic massage to a man who hasn't seen her face, is a remake of the original sketch. The character was named after Page. Jamie took his stage name as a tribute to Redd Foxx.

When this episode originally aired, it included a sketch starring Keenen Ivory Wayans as Billy Dee Williams parodying Williams' commercials for Colt .45, a malt liquor. In the sketch, Williams has sex with a woman (played by Kim Coles) while she is passed out drunk. The sketch was ordered to be cut by Fox censors before airtime. But Wayans "accidentally" did not cut it. The sketch was never shown again and was not included in the DVD release. It was replaced by a sketch titled "The Exxxon Family" in the repeats and the DVD.
In the opening sketch "Anonymous Express", a group of people touring the NBC Studios comes through, Chris Rock (played by Shawn Wayans) asks a woman in the crowd does she recognize him from SNL. The woman is Molly Shannon who would join the cast of SNL two years later. Later in the sketch, Jamie Foxx plays Garrett Morris (another black SNL cast member). Garrett Morris would later play Uncle Junior King on the Jamie Foxx Show.
