Summary: Mike Sloan, the soldier killed in an accident on his way home, is laid to rest. However, the town is restless with race discrimination and love triangles brewing in the atmosphere. The Sloans reject their son's last wishes and refuse to let Gloria Davis (a black woman) sing at their son's funeral. Gina (the Italian wife) confronts Linda Metcalf (Mike Sloan's hometown girlfriend).
