The series finale was preempted, halfway through, on the west coast, as ABC News was breaking the story of Princess Diana's fatal car accident in Paris. There were a few complaints from viewers, but nothing of significant note as the show aired on a Saturday Night, and was one of the lowest rated programs on ABC at the time. The show aired in full in syndication.

In the episode where Mr. Cooper plays basketball for the Golden State Warriors, the practice scenes were taped at the Warriors' home court in Oakland, but the game itself was recorded at the University of California's gymnasium in Berkeley; it was an actual pre-season game against Phoenix, held in Berkeley because Kevin Johnson, who was playing for the Suns after graduating from Cal, was having his college number retired that night. The scenes of Mark Curry playing were not specially scripted; he did, in fact, actually play in the game.
