Episode Quotes

Will Schuester: [after hearing Sugar sing] Holy sh... ugar!
Rachel Berry: High school is where you learn, it's survival of the fittest. She's gonna drag the New Directions down and that's not fair for those of us who don't wanna spend our lives rotting in this insignificant town! You said that you'd do anything to get us to Nationals. She is gonna keep us from winning that elusive crown, if anything, she's gonna kill all of our chances!
Finn Hudson: The truth is, I have no idea what I'm doing. I look around, and everyone knows where they're headed, or at least what they want. I'm lost. It's like I can't even remember who I am anymore. [gets slushied in the face by several students] Now I remember.

Mistakes/Goofs

  • Goof (continuity error): Throughout the song 'We Got The Beat' when Rachel, Santana and Brittany are stood on the tables, their order repeatedly changes between shots.
  • Goof (continuity error): When Kurt and Rachel are talking in the car it is raining on Rachel's side of the car. The camera then cuts to Kurt and the first two times his side of the car is completely dry until the third cut to him.

Trivia

  • Two dancers from So You Think You Can Dance appeared in this episode, Courtney Galiano from Season 4 as one of the Skanks and Melinda Sullivan from Season 7 as one of the "Anything Goes" dancers.
  • When Emma is providing Kurt and Rachel with college counseling, she says, "Kent State has a wonderful musical theater program and a macabre backstory, so if you're having a bad day, or you don't get the lead in the musical, you can say to yourself 'you know what? Things really could be worse.'" Emma is referring to the incident on May 4, 1970, in which members of the Ohio National Guard fired 67 rounds into a crowd of unarmed college student war protesters on the Kent State campus, killing four students and wounding nine others. This incident is now seen by many historians as a turning point in national attitudes about U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
  • One of the songs in this episode is "You Can't Stop the Beat" from the musical Hairspray. Matthew Morrison (Mr. Schuester) played the role of Link Larkin in the original Broadway cast of Hairspray.
