- At one point, Zoidberg (as a cancer) says: "I'll try a bite". This sounds like "I'm trilobite". Trilobites are an ancient, extinct subgroup of arthropods. Crustaceans (including Zoidberg) are a subgroup of arthropods as well.
- In the segment "Pinta Island Tortoise" Lonely Hubert is an obvious reference to the famous Pinta Island Tortoise, Lonesome George. In a sad coincidence, Lonesome George, the last of his species, died on June 24, 2012. The segment had already been filmed but aired roughly two months after George's demise.
