Mistakes/Goofs
- Goof (miscellaneous): In the second scene in the hangar, where Bender is made captain of the Planet Express ship, the background behind Bender and the Professor moves up and down several times.
Trivia
- This episode bears a striking resemblance to the Exxon Valdez disaster, including the thought the tanker couldn't be ripped open, the disastrous "oil" slick, the alcohol content of the captain, and the desire to get the wildlife cleaned up.
- The scene where Free Waterfall, Sr. tries to convince Leela to join the penguin hunt features a window with penguins pressed together on the outside, reminiscent of a scene in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Mark of Gideon".
- According to David X. Cohen on the DVD commentary, the original title of this episode was "The Emperor Ben-quin".

- This is the second story with a member of the Waterfall family, Free Waterfall Sr. He is the leader of a group of protesters, trying to protect the penguin reserve on Pluto. As with his son, as well as the rest of his family, he is killed by a horde of rampaging penguins, demanding they use every part of his body before dying.
