Summary: Due to an unforeseen incident, pizza delivery boy Philip J. Fry becomes frozen in a cryogenics lab. When he awakes 1000 years later, he's more than happy to have left behind his dismal past. He meets with an alien, Leela, to receive his permanent career assignment as a delivery boy. Fry refuses to perform the same job that had dissatisfied him in his old life, so he runs away. With the help of a robot friend, Bender, he attempts to permanently escape from Leela and her reminder of the loser he once was.

MISTAKES/GOOFS
- FAKE: It's dark outside in New York at midnight when Fry is frozen, but a long shot of the planet actually shows the eastern half of the United States as being in sunlight.
- CONT: When in the back room of the head museum, Bender pull out two bars to make an escape. But when he lifts them in triumph of his new options, in the window behind him the bars are back in place. On the next "shot", they're gone again.
- PLOT: The start of both the years 2000 and 3000 is heralded simultaneously across the globe. The midnights should be staggered due to time zones.
- FACT: This episode portrays both 1999-12-31 and 2999-12-31 as "the eve of a new millennium". This is a common misconception; historical epochs traditionally have no year zero (the practice of starting an epoch at 0 instead of 1 came in in the 20th century, but the Anno Domini Epoch was established in 532 AD), so the correct dates for these landmarks are 2000-12-31 and 3000-12-31 respectively. (Those who claim that "the Third Millennium started on 2000-01-01" are in any case trying to have it both ways; they're counting years from 0 but centuries and millennia from 1.)
- CONT: Since New New York was built on top of Old New York, the building the cryogenic lab was in should have been underground as well.
TRIVIA
- Fry walks up to a tube that transports people. The person in front of him says, "Radio City Mutant Hall," and zips up in the tube. When the show first aired the person said, "JFK Jr. Airport," but it was changed after John Kennedy Jr. (a.k.a. JFK Jr.)'s death.
- Bender takes Fry to hide inside the Head Museum saying, "It's Free on Tuesdays." 31 December 2999 will, in fact, be a Tuesday.
- When Fry travels through an underwater transport tube, he passes the mutated three-eyed fish Blinky that Bart Simpson found in The Simpsons.
- SPOILER: Much later in the series, it is revealed that Nibbler ordered the pizza that Fry delivers at the beginning of this episode, and that he was the one who caused Fry to fall into the cryogenic chamber. In this episode, as Fry's chair tips over, Nibbler's shadow is visible in the background.
- When Leela is working as an agent for the employment assignment people, her ID is "Agent 1B-DI", which is "one beady eye" - a good description of her visual apparatus.
