Despite being one of their most popular shows at the time the series was pulled halfway through its run by RTE, the national broadcaster of Ireland. As one of the main characters was considering an abortion, the Catholic Church in Ireland successfully used their influence to have the show withdrawn from Irish screens.
The title is based upon a quote from William Shakespeare's play "King Lear" (Act I, Scene IV): "How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child!"
