SPOILER: An early draft of the script ended with Craven being shot dead by sniper before revealing that, at some point in the future, he would turn into a tree.
Jedburgh pronounces his name as "Jedburg" throughout. The town of the same name in Scotland, is usually pronounced "Jedburuh", which is the way that his Scottish land lady, Mrs Girvan, pronounces it. (It is also known as "Jeddart" locally)
Joe Don Baker's character Jedburgh is the same as the code name of a WWII sabotage group that worked with the French underground to parachute agents behind enemy lines. The code name was taken from a Scotish town. His character's name is therefore suggestive of the sort of part he will play in the drama.
Director Martin Campbell later adapted the series into a feature film, with Mel Gibson in Bob Peck's role.
