The registration number of the transport ship, VA 1587, is seen on the uniforms of the crew members. This is a reference to the famous "Lost Colony" of Sir Walter Raleigh, who settled what was then called Virginia in the year 1587.
The landscape is so beautiful because it is shot in the area around Santa Fe, NM.
Though aired as the next-to-last episode by NBC, "Natural Born Grendlers" wasn't intended to be shown so late. The fact that Alonzo still wears his splint places it early in the series' run. Some other clues in the episode place it between "Life Lessons" and "Promises, Promises": Alonzo gains a cut on his forehead in "Natural Born Grendlers" which is still visible in "Promises, Promises". Also, the horse that was first featured in "Life Lessons" can be seen in the background in "Natural Born Grendlers".
Though aired as the final episode by NBC, "Flower Child" wasn't intended to be. Its stated time of Day 130 on the planet places it between "Survival of the Fittest" (Day 117) and "All about Eve" (the intended finale).
