Summary: The Sontaran fleet watch from space as the Earth is gripped in a deadly blanket of poisonous fumes. Whilst UNIT collides with Sontaran ground forces, the Doctor and a treacherous clone of Martha attempt to locate a missing TARDIS, and Donna finds herself trapped aboard the Sontaran ship itself...

The Doctor: Poison gas? That's the weapon of a coward, and you know it. Staal, you could blast this planet out of the sky, and yet you're sitting up above watching it die. Where's the fight in that, where's the honor? Or...are you lot planning something else? 'Cause this isn't normal Sontaran warfare, what are you lot up to?
General Staal: A general would be unwise to reveal his strategy to the opposing party.
The Doctor: [amused] Ah, the war's not going so well, then. Losing, are we?
General Staal: [insulted] Such a suggestion is impossible!
Colonel Mace: What war?
The Doctor: The war between the Sontarans and the Rutans, raging far out in the stars for 50 000 years. 50 000 years of bloodshed, and for *what?*
General Staal: For victory!

The Doctor: [annoyed] Give me a break!

Colonel Mace: Doctor, I would seriously recommend that this dialogue is handled by official Earth representations.

Donna Noble: [on the Sontaran ship; talking softly] There's a door.
The Doctor: [talking just as soft] There should be a switch on the side.
Donna Noble: Yeah, there is. But it's a Sontaran switch; you need three fingers.
The Doctor: You've got three fingers.
Donna Noble: Oh, yeah.

Donna Noble: I'm through.
The Doctor: Oh, [talking right into the mouth piece] you're brilliant you are.
Donna Noble: [sighs] Shut up.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

FAKE: At the beginning of the episode, Donna's mom smashes the front window of their car. However, car's windows are triplexes: 2 layers of glass, glued to a single layer of plastic, so they don't simply collapse, as shown. (The whole point is to prevent the crash and minimize injury from glass cuts.)

TRIVIA

Donna Noble gets a key to the TARDIS, the first of 2 signs that she is the new companion, the other being a cell phone upgrade.
When wearing a gas mask, the Doctor says "Are you my mummy?". This is a reference to the episode 'The Empty Child' in which people whose physical appearances have been altered to mimic that of someone wearing a gas mask repeatedly ask that very same question.
When preparing for the nuclear strike, all countries with known nuclear capabilities check in, except for Russia. The very last to check in is North Korea, of which it is disputed they have nuclear weapons, at which point the Colonel looks very surprised.
