Episode Quotes
Eddie: Don't mind the wife, she rattles on a bit.
The Doctor: Well maybe she should rattle on a bit more. I'm not convinced you're doing your patriotic duty. Those flags. Why are they not flying?
Eddie: There we are Rita, I told you. Get them up, Queen and country!
Rita: I'm sorry.
Eddie: Get it done. Do it now.
The Doctor: Hold on a minute.
Eddie: Like the gentleman says.
The Doctor: Hold on a minute. You've got hands, Mr Connolly. Two big hands. So why's that your wifes job?
Eddie: Well it's housework, isn't it?
The Doctor: And that's a womans job?
Eddie: Course it is!
The Doctor: Mr Connolly, what gender is the Queen?
Eddie: She's a female.
The Doctor: And are you suggesting the Queen does the housework?
Eddie: No! No, not at all.
The Doctor: Then get busy!
Eddie: Right, yes sir. You'll be proud of us sir. We'll have Union Jacks left, right, and centre.
Rose: 'Scuse me Mr Connolly, hang on a minute. Union Jacks?
Eddie: Yes, that's right, isn't it?
Rose: That's the Union Flag. It's the Union Jack only when it's flown at sea.
Eddie: Oh. Oh, I'm sorry. I... I do apologise.
Rose: Well, don't get it wrong again. There's a good man, now get to it!
The Doctor: Right then! Nice and comfy, at Her Majesty's Leisure. [to Rose] Union Flag?
Rose: Mum went out with a sailor.
The Doctor: Oh, I bet she did.

The Doctor: Been burning the candle at both ends? You've overextended yourself, missus! You shouldn't have had a crack at poor old Magpie like that! [the Wire electrocutes the Doctor through the portable TV]
The Wire: Hahahahaha!
The Doctor: [immediately fine] Rubber soles! Swear by 'em!

Tommy: We don't even know where to start looking. It's too late.
The Doctor: "It's never too late," as a wise person once said. Kylie, I think.

Mistakes/Goofs
- Goof (continuity error): During the showdown at the transmitter tower, Tommy replaces the burnt out vacuum tube on the device and plugs it completely in. In the next shot, the plug is not completely in and Tommy's hand is seen plugging it in again.
- Goof (continuity error): When The Doctor first gets on his scooter, we see Rose putting her helmet on before she gets on, but she doesn't do her chin strap up. When we next see her, on the bike, her strap is done up.
- Goof (factual errors): One of the programs on the new television set is "Animal, Vegetable, Mineral?". In 1953 this quiz show was broadcast on Thursdays. But, it's the eve of the coronation, which makes it Monday the 1st of June. "Animal, vegetable, mineral?" wasn't on that evening.
- Goof (factual errors): When the Doctor and Magpie are climbing the transmitting tower, several insulators (brown and green structures) are shown attached to the tower with no wires on the other end. This exposed end should have the actual antenna wires attached. When Magpie connects the device, he connects it to the tower structure itself and not to an actual antenna. This would have grounded out the signal and done nothing.
- Goof (continuity error): When about to chase the black car, Doctor Who puts on Rose's helmet, pink with white visor, and in the next scene on the scooter he is wearing his own helmet, white with black visor.
Trivia
- The line spoken by The Wire: "Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin" was the opening for the BBC radio program "Listen with Mother", which ran from 1950 until 1982.
- In the script there are a lot of references to the strange activity happening around Florizel Street. Florizel Street was the original name for Coronation Street.
- The Doctor makes a reference to the song "Never Too Late" by Kylie Minogue. Incidentally, Minogue herself later made a starring role in the episode "Doctor Who" (2005) {Voyage of the Damned (#4.0)}.
- Maureen Lipman shot her role in half a day at Alexandra Place.
- All the antennas on the rooftops are shaped like swastikas.
