Summary: Madame de Pompadour, the official mistress of King Louis XV, has been haunted by recurring dreams of the Doctor since childhood. When the King's palace comes under attack from sinister clockwork robots, she attempts to summon him in an effort to protect its inhabitants from the mechanical killers.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

CONT: When the Doctor is trying to fix the connection from the past to the future through the fireplace, the background of the spaceship can be seen behind the flames whilst there is no connection.
CONT: When The Doctor is walking amongst Reinettes memories, you see the placement of his hands on her head change from frame to frame.
CHAR: Ironically, for a show so dependent on time and timing, King Louis XV states, "Only 43 when she died," but Mme. de Pompadour was actually 42 at her death (b. 12/29/1721, d. 4/15/1764). Stating in her 43rd year would have been technically correct.
CHAR: Reinette and the Doctor first met when she was 7 years old, but she was not given this nickname until she was 9, when her mother took her to a fortune-teller who said she would grow to become the mistress of a king. (Reinette means "Little Queen" in French.)
CONT: When Madame de Pompadour is walking in the gardens with her friend, the Doctor ducks down behind a pillar so he will not be seen. He puts his hands on the pillar but in the next shot they are gone, then they are back again.

TRIVIA

Take a look at the cup the Doctor is holding in the scene where Rose and Mickey are tied up. That is not the traditional wine glass, but one that is based, according to an urban legend, on the shape of the breast of Madam Du Pompadour, the lady this story is about.
The robots driven by intricate clockwork and mechanical gears are based on self-operating machines called "automatons" which were present in 17th century Europe at the time.
Various VIP people from the BBC visited the set for this episode.
The Spaceship is designed in the shape of a key.
In a deleted scene The Doctor met the nasty owner of the horse (Phylip Harries) that gets trapped on the Spaceship, the owner is trying to find the horse and threatens to hurt it when he finds it.
