Summary: Mickey calls the Doctor and Rose back to Earth to look into the strange problems at a school that is exhibiting peculiar goings on. The Doctor, posing as teacher, and Rose, as a cafeteria worker, seek to find out what the situation is. They are surprised when one of the Doctor’s old companions, Sarah Jane Smith, and her robot dog, K-9, appear, to investigate the same peculiarities.What they find is an alien race trying to use the young students to solve a code they sorely need to move up an evolutionary step.The Doctor must defeat their attempt, while side stepping questions Sarah Jane Smith has about why the earlier incarnation of the Doctor abandoning her, to never, until now, be seen again. This causes Rose to wonder if this might be her future fate, too.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

CONT: The door of Finch's office keeps alternating from having the "Headmaster" plaque below a glass panel in the door and then having the same plaque halfway up the door with no glass panel.
FAKE: At the end when Sarah Jane is walking towards the Tardis and the Doctor opens the doors the inside of the Tardis is obviously a painting.
CONT: When Mickey enters the School Computer Room, dozens of pupils are busy typing, and every one of them is also wearing headphones. However, once Mickey unplugs the main connection for the computers, and shouts "everybody get out, now," no one is wearing headphones.
CONT: When Mickey pulls the plugs on the computers, the children are all wearing headphones, and when he turns around and tells them to run, all of a sudden their headphones are all off.
CHAR: The Doctor says to Sarah Jane that he's regenerated "half a dozen times since we last met." Seeing as he's on his tenth incarnation and last saw her on his fifth, it should be five.

TRIVIA

To make Sarah Jane and Rose continue laughing the make-up artist painted a mustache on David Tennant without them knowing until he came on set. (Which is why at one point you see Rose point at him while laughing.)
Elisabeth Sladen warned the crew about the difficulties with working with the K-9 prop, which had a reputation for breaking down. Despite several years of improvement in technology, Sladen's warnings were proved correct.
