The Doctor looks and seems human. He's handsome, sexy and witty, and could be mistaken for just another man in the street. But the Doctor is a Time Lord: a 909 year old alien with 2 hearts, part of a gifted civilization who mastered time travel with his TARDIS. The Doctor saves planets for a living and he's very, very good at it. The human race will survive - but only with the Doctor's help.

BBC officially confirmed, via their blog, that Doctor Who has been commissioned for an eighth season! The shows lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat broke the news, saying, “We’re delighted to confirm a new series of Doctor Who has been commissioned and we are already plotting a brand new run of adventures for the Doctor.” Matt Smith has also been confirmed to return as The Doctor.

- The balloon TARDIS has a bell. This may reference the Cloister Bell, a feature of the real TARDIS.
- Sir Michael Gambon is only the second knighted actor to act in the series. The first was Sir Derek Jacobi, who starred in a David Tennant story.
- Goof (revealing mistake): In the bedroom used by the Doctor, around the door damaged by the alien Christmas tree there are clear guide lines to help the carpenter cut out the tree shape.
